On an occasion of the Tamil Nadu State Police Day, the Director General of Police, Mr. J.K. Tripathy, inaugurated the Online Payment Portal, set up by the Tamil Nadu Traffic Police, on Wednesday.
The portal is a step taken towards digitizing the system by which drivers can pay traffic fines through a secure online payment gateway. The portal will provide drivers with more convenience, as they can now pay their fines at any time over the internet. It will also help the police department to reduce long queues, paperwork and other manual processes.
The portal supports payment gateways such as net banking, debit cards, credit cards and wallets. It is facilitated by HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Paytm.
This portal will facilitate all transactions in an effective, secure and transparent manner. Reports suggest transactions are approved within seconds and all communications between the bank, customer and the traffic police will be secure and encrypted.
The Traffic Sentinels who are out in the field and enforcing the laws would be able to generate a QR code, using the mobile traffic enforcement app, which contains the transaction details and fine amount. The QR code can be used to make payments either through the link that the sentinels will share or through the online payment portal.
Drivers who violate traffic laws, such as driving without a valid license, can now pay the fines by going to the portal. They will have to fill in their license numbers, and other payment information, in order to make the payment. Once the transaction is successful, the details will be updated in their registration books.
The introduction of the Online Payment Portal is all set to make the process of paying fines in Tamil Nadu seamless, efficient and secure. The police department has promised to expand the payment network to other cities in Tamil Nadu, in the future. This can surely improve traffic enforcement and help the authorities in enforcing laws to maintain law and order.
